That's it. There's not much else to say about it. Everything in the film has been done before. There's nothing original about it.

Does it please the masses? Is it fun? I guess so. I can't say I really enjoyed it, but I didn't dislike it either. It just kept my mind stupidly occupied for a couple hours.

Jay H Super Reviewer. May 06, Not a classic but it has it's fair share of laughs. Reynolds keeps things funny and bullock always seems to be likable even in the bad films.

These films are such a cliche but that's the way the audience wants them. Brendan N Super Reviewer. Apr 30, The film suffers from a poorly written script, poor acting and very bad directing.

This film is plainly horrible, and is just not worth anyone's time. The film has absolutely nothing new to offer, and only thing it delivers is a strained formula that is overdone and not interesting anymore.

The film was poorly done with no redeeming qualities. The film is poorly done, and they could have done something interesting here, but the film simply falls flat and becomes tiring very quickly.

The weakness about this film is the poorly written script, and it feels like they simply just cut and pasted other elements from previous rom-com to make this film.

The result is a horrible film, and is one that I found painful to finish, however I managed to do it.

This is a definite failure of a comedy, one that a poor cast and poor directing has made this film a film to avoid. I hated this film. I thought it was a waste of time I wish they would stop making romantic comedies because it's always predictable despite a different twist on a familiar story.

This film was horrible and the only I can recommend you is to avoid this. Sandra Bullock is better than this. Even Ryan Reynolds. For three years, Andrew Paxton has slaved as the assistant to Margaret Tate, hard-driving editor at a New York publisher.

When Margaret, a Canadian, faces deportation for an expired visa, she hatches a scheme to marry Andrew - he agrees if she'll promise a promotion.

A skeptical INS agent vows to test the couple about each other the next Monday. Andrew had plans to fly home that weekend for his grandma's 90th, so Margaret goes with him - to Sitka, Alaska - where mom, dad, and grams await.

Family dynamics take over: tensions between dad and Andrew, an ex-girlfriend, Andrew's dislike of Margaret, and her past color the next few days, with the INS ready to charge Andrew with fraud.

Even though it so clearly apes the set-up of David Frankel's "The Devil Wears Prada", I think the first 25 minutes of this romantic comedy has genuine snap enhanced by the sharp comedy interplay between stars Sandra Bullock and Ryan Reynolds.

Once the story leaves the Manhattan publishing house for the pastoral wilderness of Alaska, the story reverts into a formulaic sitcom bearing more than a passing resemblance to Bullock's break-out vehicle, 's "While You Were Sleeping", including an escalation of comic deceptions and a heart-tugging wedding confessional.

In fact, she plays the alpha dog with Reynolds relegated to the traditional leading lady role. The result produces enough contrived shenanigans to please Bullock's die-hard fans thanks to by-the-numbers work by director Anne Fletcher "27 Dresses" and first-time screenwriter Pete Chiarelli.

The storyline has Bullock playing vituperative book editor Margaret Tate, a workaholic careerist who instills fear into her entire office.

As her bullied assistant Andrew Paxton, Reynolds caters to her every whim in the hopes that she will help boost his publishing career. As is typical for an opposites-attract rom-com, a complication occurs when Margaret, a Canadian, finds out she is to be deported because her visa application has been denied.

Instead of facing immediate termination, she manipulates Andrew to let her superiors know that they are getting married. This moment of desperate deceit leads to an awkward visit with an immigration agent who senses a green-card arrangement and requires proof of their relationship.

In order to avert suspicion, Margaret accompanies Andrew to visit his close-knit family in Sitka, Alaska, where it is revealed his family is quite wealthy and in fact, run many of the businesses in town.

They continue their charade of being engaged, which of course, fans the flames of his family's enthusiasm for a wedding. The rest of the film is pretty much you would expect save a strange episode of Andrew's grandmother performing a native dance in the woods.

It's funny to see how Bullock cleverly uses the same prickliness she displayed effectively in her near-cameo in Paul Haggis' "Crash" in this film's establishing scenes as Margaret.

In turn, Reynolds shows smart timing as put-upon Andrew, and their interplay has a nice edge. Note how well they perform during the best scenes early on when Margaret baldly lies about their upcoming nuptials at the office and in front of the immigration officer.

It's just when they move into more traditional rom-com territory where their chemistry feels weakened and the sparks doused. Chiarelli's haphazard screenplay doesn't help them as they have little beyond one bedtime confessional scene to make us think they may belong together.

Craig T. Nelson plays a familiar role as Andrew's disapproving father, but their subplot weighs down the proceedings unnecessarily.

The next day, Grace and Annie take Margaret to a local bar as part of her bachelorette party to watch a strip dance by a locally famous but over-the-hill exotic dancer, Ramone.

Stepping away from the show, Margaret learns from Gertrude that Andrew wanted to become an editor and make his own life and that Andrew had proposed to Gertrude.

However, Gertrude refused because she didn't want to leave Sitka for New York. Returning home, Margaret learns of the conflict between Andrew and Joe.

That night, Margaret asks Andrew about his relationship with his father, but Andrew refuses to talk. Instead, Margaret opens up to Andrew.

The next day, the family convinces them to marry while they're in Sitka. After Margaret realizes how close Andrew's family is, she becomes upset, gets on Andrew's boat, and speeds away with him.

She tells him she has been alone since she was sixteen years old after her parents died and had forgotten what it felt like to have a family.

She lets go of the helm and stumbles to the back of the boat. Andrew makes a sharp turn to avoid hitting a buoy, and Margaret falls out of the boat.

Andrew quickly turns the boat around and saves her because she can't swim. At the wedding ceremony, Margaret confesses the truth about the wedding to the guests, including Gilbertson, who informs her she has twenty-four hours to leave for Canada.

Margaret returns to the Paxton home to pack her things. Andrew rushes to their room only to find Margaret has already left, leaving the aforementioned book manuscript with a note of praise and a promise to publish it.

Gertrude attempts to comfort Andrew and asks approvingly if he is going to go after her. As he rushes out to find Margaret, another argument arises between him and Joe.

Annie appears to have a heart attack, causing her and the family to be airlifted to the hospital and convinces them to reconcile before she "passes away".

After she succeeds in getting things moving again, she admits to faking the heart attack as it was the only means to get their attention and tells the pilot to head to the airport in hopes of catching up to Margaret.

Andrew's parents realize he really loves Margaret. He goes to New York and tells Margaret he loves her in front of the entire office staff.

They kiss, then go to Gilbertson and inform him they are again engaged, but for real this time. The film ends with Gilbertson asking questions some of them irrelevant not only to Andrew and Margaret, but also Joe, Grace, Annie, and Ramone.

Peter Chiarelli initially wrote the script for the film in In response, city officials accommodated the producers by renting out all publicly owned parking lots.

Filming for The Proposal was shortly delayed after Bullock and her husband were involved in a car accident. Initially, the owners directed Coates to other residences in the area; however, they eventually gave the film's producer a tour of the house.

Production occurred on the first floor of the home. As part of an extensive advertising campaign, Reynolds discussed taking part in the production of a nude scene.

Expressing that she was initially nervous, Bullock stated in an interview with Sky News that "when everyone else acts like it's just a normal day it really helps you relax.

She added, "You could literally see everything. The Proposal was released in the United States on June 19,
